Saturday Dinner

It is raining very hard here in Boston today...but it's probably not as bad as the weather Emily is having up in Maine. Apparently, there are hurricane warnings there, which is uncommon. However, I have spent more time than is desirable wandering around outside in sodden jeans, because the downpour runs off my raincoat and onto my legs. Blech.

We made up for it by cooking yet another delicious dinner. I didn't have time to take pictures, because eating it was more important:
1) Deanna's canned venison. So delicious, and all we did was put it in a pot with some salt and pepper, and cook it just a little bit. Wow. We need friends who hunt and can, because we have got to get more of that!
2) Mashed potatoes. Boiled potatoes mashed with four shallots (melted in butter over low heat) and half a brick of cream cheese. (Bryan: "We don't really have any dairy products." Me, after a pause: "There's cream cheese!" Bryan: "That's amazing. Do you just keep a catalog of our dairy products in your head?" Me: "Yes.")
3) Garlic greens. Bok choy, collard greens, and broccoli sauteed with garlic and olive oil. Not the most exciting part of the meal, but always tasty.
4) A delicious Belgian ale, La Chouffe from Brasserie d'Achouffe.
5) Dessert. Mexican-style Taza cinnamon chocolate. The company is nearby, in Somerville, Mass., and I got some of their chocolate at the farmers' market last week. We will try to use it for hot chocolate as well.

I hope that you are all eating as well as we are!
